National Affairs

1. Banks to Remain Open on Sunday

Public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks will remain open on Sunday, 27 September 2026, in view of the proposed bank strike from 28–30 September.

2. Defence Contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited

The Ministry of Defence signed a ₹811 crore contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for 160 Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons for the Indian Air Force. The deal supports the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

3. SLINEX-26 Exercise

The India–Sri Lanka bilateral maritime exercise SLINEX-26 concluded at Visakhapatnam. The exercise focused on strengthening maritime cooperation and interoperability between the two countries.

4. World Maritime Day 2026

World Maritime Day is being observed on 24 September 2026. The theme for 2026–27 is “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.” The day is observed under the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Asian Development Bank has raised its forecast for India’s economic growth in the current fiscal year to 7%, citing stronger-than-expected economic performance.

Fintech company Moneyview opened its IPO for public subscription on 24 September 2026. The company is backed by investors including Accel.

8. NSE IPO Listing

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) is scheduled to list its shares on 24 September 2026 after completing its IPO process.

9. Mirabai Chanu Wins Silver

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in the women's 49 kg category at the 2026 Asian Games. She lifted a total of 198 kg.

10. Jay Meena Makes History

Jay Meena won a bronze medal in men's individual soft tennis at the 2026 Asian Games, becoming India's first Asian Games medallist in soft tennis.

11. India at Asian Games 2026

After the September 23 events, India had won 12 medals – 1 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze at the Asian Games.
