Summary:-

                 The chapter "The Necklace'' by Guy De Maupassant is about a lady named Matilda who, because of her greed and her wish to show off as a rich woman, destroyed her health as well as her whole life. Matilda was born in a family of clerks. She was pretty and attractive but didn't have a lavish life. The poverty tortured and angered her every moment. Further she was married to a clerk and continued her life in poverty. She always wanted to be a rich woman, she wanted to eat delicious food and to live a lavish life. And because of that she always lived tensed. One day her husband brought a large envelope in which there was an invitation card to attend a party in the house of the Minister. In place of getting excited, she threw that envelope and started weeping. The husband couldn't understand anything and started stammering what was the matter. Matilda replied that she had not any dress to wear in the party. Her husband asked her what amount it would cost to buy a dress and she replied 400 Francs. The husband, ignoring his own desire to buy a gun to join some hunting parties, bought a dress for his wife. But Matilda was still sad and when was asked, she replied that she didn't have any necklace for the party. Further, according to the suggestion of her husband, she went to her friend Madam Forestier and borrowed a diamond necklace. She wore the necklace with the new dress and really became the centre of attraction in the party. Matilda was so happy as she was looking at the most attractive woman in the whole party. After the party ended, when she, with her husband, somehow returned home, she noticed that she didn't have the diamond necklace. Both husband and wife were so worried about the necklace. The husband went back the whole way to find the necklace but couldn't find it. He advertised about the Necklace and announced the prize if anyone brought that to them but didn't find any response. To get some more time to return the necklace, Matilda pretended in front of her friend that the clasp of the necklace was broken. Finally they both decided to buy a new necklace which cost 36000 franks after discount. Her husband took out loans from different places and different sources. He already had 1800 franks and he arranged the rest of the amount by taking loans. They bought a new necklace and returned that  to her friend. After that day their lives converted into such miserable conditions. They had to shift to a smaller house, had to reply their maid servant,  had to do extra work and Matilda started doing all the household work. It took almost 10 years to repay the complete loan. Matilda converted into an old lady. After 10 years, one day Matilda met her friend Madam Forestier on the way and told her that the necklace she had borrowed from her had been lost before 10 years but they bought a new one in thirty six thousand Francs and had returned it to her. Because of that they had to borrow a big amount and in the course of repayment of those amounts, their situation converted into so miserable. Listening to this, Madam Forestier got shocked and told her that the necklace that she had given to Matilda was not made of real diamond and the cost of that was just 500 francs.

              गाय डी मौपासेंट का अध्याय "द नेकलेस" मटिल्डा नाम की एक महिला के बारे में है, जिसने अपने लालच के कारण और खुद को एक अमीर महिला के रूप में दिखाने की इच्छा के कारण, अपने पूरे जीवन के साथ-साथ अपने स्वास्थ्य को भी नष्ट कर दिया। मटिल्डा का जन्म क्लर्कों के परिवार में हुआ था। वह सुंदर और आकर्षक थी, लेकिन उसके पास अमीरों वाला जीवन नहीं था। गरीबी ने उसे हर पल प्रताड़ित और नाराज़ किया। बाद में उसने एक क्लर्क से शादी की और गरीबी में अपना जीवन जारी रखा। वह हमेशा एक अमीर महिला बनना चाहती थी, वह स्वादिष्ट भोजन करना और एक शानदार जीवन जीना चाहती थी। और इस वजह से वह हमेशा तनाव में रहती थी। एक दिन उनके पति एक बड़ा लिफाफा लेकर आए जिसमें मंत्री के घर में एक पार्टी में शामिल होने के लिए निमंत्रण कार्ड था। उत्तेजित होने के स्थान पर, उसने उस लिफाफे को फेंक दिया और रोने लगी। पति कुछ समझ नहीं पाया और हकलाने लगा कि क्या बात है। मटिल्डा ने जवाब दिया कि पार्टी में पहनने के लिए उसके पास कोई ड्रेस नहीं है। उनके पति ने उनसे पूछा कि एक पोशाक खरीदने के लिए किस राशि का खर्च आएगा और उसने 400 फ्रैंक्स का जवाब दिया। कुछ शिकार दलों में शामिल होने के लिए बंदूक खरीदने की अपनी इच्छा को अनदेखा करते हुए पति ने अपनी पत्नी के लिए एक पोशाक ख़रीद दी। लेकिन मटिल्डा अभी भी दुखी थी और जब उससे पूछा गया, तो उसने जवाब दिया कि उसके पास पार्टी के लिए कोई हार नहीं है। आगे, अपने पति के सुझाव के अनुसार, वह अपने दोस्त मैडम फॉरेस्टियर के पास गई और हीरे का हार उधार ले ली। वह नई ड्रेस के साथ हार पहनी और पार्टी में वास्तव में आकर्षण का केंद्र बन गई।

           मटिल्डा बहुत खुश थी क्योंकि वह पूरी पार्टी में सबसे आकर्षक महिला लग रही थी। पार्टी खत्म होने के बाद, जब वह अपने पति के साथ, किसी तरह घर लौटी, तो उसने देखा कि उसके पास हीरे का हार नहीं था। हार को लेकर पति-पत्नी दोनों चिंतित थे। हार ढूंढने के लिए पति पूरे रास्ते से वापस चला गया लेकिन वह नहीं मिला। उन्होंने नेकलेस के बारे में विज्ञापन दिया और पुरस्कार की घोषणा की अगर कोई भी उन्हें लाए, लेकिन कोई प्रतिक्रिया नहीं मिली। हार लौटाने के लिए कुछ और समय पाने के लिए, मटिल्डा ने अपनी सहेली के सामने नाटक किया कि हार का सिलसिला टूट गया है। अंत में उन दोनों ने एक नया हार खरीदने का फैसला किया जिसकी कीमत छूट के बाद 36000 फ़्रैंक थी। उनके पति ने विभिन्न स्थानों और विभिन्न स्रोतों से ऋण लिया। उनके पास पहले से ही 1800 फ़्रैंक थे और उन्होंने बाकी की रकम लोन ले ली। उन्होंने एक नया हार खरीदा और उसे अपने दोस्त को लौटा दिया। उस दिन के बाद उनकी जीवन बहुत ही दयनीय स्थिति में परिवर्तित हो गई। उन्हें एक छोटे से घर में शिफ्ट होना पड़ा, अपने नौकरानी को जवाब देना पड़ा, अतिरिक्त काम करने पड़े और मटिल्डा ने घर के सारे काम करने शुरू कर दिए। पूरा कर्ज चुकाने में लगभग 10 साल लग गए। मटिल्डा एक बूढ़ी महिला में परिवर्तित हो गई। 10 साल बाद, एक दिन मटिल्डा ने रास्ते में अपनी दोस्त मैडम फॉरेस्टियर से मुलाकात की और बताया कि जो हार उसने उससे उधार ली थी, वह 10 साल पहले खो गई थी, लेकिन उन्होंने छत्तीस हज़ार फ्रैंक में एक नया ख़रीदा और उसे वापस कर दिया था। इसके कारण उन्हें एक बड़ी राशि उधार लेनी पड़ी और उन राशियों के पुनर्भुगतान के दौरान उनकी स्थिति इतनी दयनीय हो गई। यह सुनकर मैडम फॉरेस्टार चौंक गईं और बताया कि उन्होंने जो हार मटिल्डा को दिया था, वह असली हीरे की नहीं थी और उसकी कीमत सिर्फ 500 फ्रैंक थी।

Answer:

Yes, we should be content with what life gives us. The basic formula of life to be happy is to consider our present status and be ready to work hard for the future. If we don't accept our present situation then we always get depressed for every small problem of our life. Accepting present conditions do not mean to be useless at present. It means to accept your presence and think about the future. The way Malinda chose to look attractive was not right. She should have accepted that she did not have a good dress or necklace and that's why she should have gone with whatever she had. But she argued with her husband for a new dress and necklace. If she wanted such a glamorous life for herself then she must have worked hard with her husband to be at that position, but she did not do this. She expected it from his life and without any hard work by herself.

             Further, we can achieve anything in our life, if we determine for that. So it is better to work yourself for your goal rather than just dreamt about that.
