“The Tiger King” is a humorous and satirical story written by Kalki. It tells the story of the Maharaja of Pratibandapuram, who becomes obsessed with killing tigers because of a prediction made about his death.

When the Maharaja is born, astrologers predict that a tiger will be responsible for his death. The young prince hears about this prediction and decides to kill every tiger he can find. After becoming the king, he starts hunting tigers in his kingdom. He kills many tigers and becomes known as the Tiger King.

The Maharaja wants to kill one hundred tigers to prove the prediction wrong. He kills tiger after tiger until only one tiger is left. Meanwhile, the king marries a princess from another state because there are many tigers in her kingdom. During his visits there, he kills more tigers.

Finally, the Maharaja learns that the last tiger in his own kingdom has been found. He goes hunting, but the tiger is actually very weak and hides in the bushes. The king shoots at it but does not actually kill it. His hunters secretly kill the tiger later and tell the king that he has successfully killed the hundredth tiger.

The Maharaja then believes that he has defeated the prophecy. Later, he buys a wooden toy tiger as a birthday gift for his son. A small piece of the wooden tiger gets stuck in his hand and causes an infection. The infection becomes serious, and the Maharaja dies during an operation.

Thus, the prediction comes true in an unexpected way. The story uses humour, irony and satire to show the dangers of pride, blind belief and misuse of power. It also shows that no one can completely escape fate.

Main Message

The story teaches us that human beings cannot control everything in life. Excessive pride and obsession can lead to destruction. The writer also makes fun of the careless and arrogant behaviour of rulers.

“द टाइगर किंग” कहानी के लेखक कल्कि हैं। यह एक हास्य और व्यंग्यपूर्ण कहानी है। इसमें प्रतिबंधापुरम के महाराजा की कहानी बताई गई है, जो अपनी मृत्यु से जुड़ी भविष्यवाणी के कारण बाघों को मारने के पीछे पागल हो जाते हैं।

महाराजा के जन्म के समय ज्योतिषियों ने भविष्यवाणी की थी कि उनकी मृत्यु बाघ के कारण होगी। जब राजकुमार को इस भविष्यवाणी के बारे में पता चलता है, तो वह तय करता है कि वह सभी बाघों को मार देगा। राजा बनने के बाद वह अपने राज्य में बाघों का शिकार शुरू कर देता है। इसी कारण वह “टाइगर किंग” के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो जाता है।

महाराजा का लक्ष्य 100 बाघों को मारना था। वह एक-एक करके कई बाघों का शिकार करता है। जब उसके राज्य में बाघ कम हो जाते हैं, तो वह ऐसे राज्य की राजकुमारी से विवाह करता है जहाँ बहुत सारे बाघ हैं। वह वहाँ जाकर भी बाघों का शिकार करता रहता है।

आखिरकार, महाराजा को पता चलता है कि उसके लिए 100वाँ और आखिरी बाघ मिल गया है। वह उसका शिकार करने जाता है। महाराजा बाघ पर गोली चलाता है, लेकिन वास्तव में गोली बाघ को नहीं लगती। बाघ बच जाता है। राजा के डर से उसके शिकारी बाद में उस बाघ को मार देते हैं और राजा को बताते हैं कि उसने 100वाँ बाघ मार दिया है।

महाराजा को लगता है कि उसने भविष्यवाणी को गलत साबित कर दिया है। बाद में वह अपने बेटे के जन्मदिन पर उसे लकड़ी का बाघ खिलौने के रूप में खरीदकर देता है। खेलते समय लकड़ी के बाघ का एक छोटा-सा टुकड़ा महाराजा के हाथ में चुभ जाता है। घाव में संक्रमण फैल जाता है और उसकी हालत गंभीर हो जाती है। ऑपरेशन के दौरान महाराजा की मृत्यु हो जाती है।

इस प्रकार, भविष्यवाणी अजीब और अप्रत्याशित तरीके से सच हो जाती है। महाराजा को असली बाघ नहीं, बल्कि लकड़ी का बाघ उसकी मृत्यु की ओर ले जाता है।

मुख्य संदेश:-

कहानी हमें बताती है कि मनुष्य भाग्य और जीवन की हर घटना को अपने नियंत्रण में नहीं रख सकता। अत्यधिक अहंकार, सत्ता का गलत उपयोग और किसी बात का जुनून व्यक्ति के लिए विनाशकारी हो सकता है। लेखक ने हास्य और व्यंग्य के माध्यम से शासकों के घमंड और मूर्खतापूर्ण व्यवहार पर भी कटाक्ष किया है।
