1. India–New Zealand FTA to Come into Force
India and New Zealand have announced that their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will come into force from 20 October 2026. The agreement is aimed at expanding bilateral trade, investment and market access. India will receive duty-free access for its exports across all tariff lines, while sensitive agricultural products have been protected through exclusions and safeguards.

2. 72nd National Film Awards
The 72nd National Film Awards are being presented on 22 September 2026 at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. The awards recognise outstanding achievements in Indian cinema.

3. National Conference of Anti-Narcotics Task Forces
The 3rd National Conference of Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTF) is being held in New Delhi. The conference focuses on tackling drug cartels, synthetic drugs, clandestine laboratories, darknet-based trafficking and cryptocurrency-related investigations.
The conference is organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
4. National Formulary of India 2026
The Union Ministry of Health launched the 7th National Formulary of India (NFI) 2026. It is aimed at promoting the rational and safe use of medicines and strengthening patient safety through the country's pharmacovigilance system.

5. Exercise Nomadic Elephant 2026
The 18th edition of Exercise Nomadic Elephant has commenced at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
- Participants: India and Mongolia
- Type: Bilateral Army Exercise
- Focus: Counter-insurgency operations
- Other areas: Cyber security, drones, counter-drone systems, heliborne operations and tactical drills.
The exercise is conducted alternately in India and Mongolia.

6. Partners for Multilateralism Summit
India is among the co-sponsors of the inaugural Partners for Multilateralism (P4M) Summit being held at the United Nations in New York on 22 September 2026.
The initiative focuses on strengthening multilateral cooperation and international institutions.
7. UN General Assembly
The annual high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly is underway in New York. Global issues including international conflicts, peace and security, climate change, economic challenges and multilateral cooperation are among the major themes.

8. Tata Group Governance Dispute
A significant corporate governance dispute has emerged between Tata Sons and Tata Trusts, involving questions around board decisions, leadership and the future structure of Tata Sons.

9. Asian Games 2026
The 2026 Asian Games are being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from 19 September to 4 October 2026.

10. World Rhino Day – 22 September
World Rhino Day is observed every year on 22 September to raise awareness about rhinoceros conservation.
India is particularly important for rhino conservation because Kaziranga National Park in Assam is one of the world's major habitats for the greater one-horned rhinoceros.
