August 4, Tuesday was a black day for Beirut, capital of Lebanon. Government of Lebanon declared Beirut a disaster city after the massive explosion in a warehouse and imposed an emergency for two weeks. Officials confirmed that two explosions shook the port area of capital  Beirut and it was an accident and is in no way terror related. Over 140 people were killed and around 5000 injured directly in the massive explosion. More than 300,000 people have been displaced from their homes. Hundreds have been reported missing, raising fears that the death toll will rise, the health minister, Labanon said on Wednesday. 



       


    



Massive plumes of smoke could be seen rising above the capital near the port . These pictures describe the destruction of a large area in Beirut near the port. 


  



Hundreds of people still missing in this disaster and authorities are still finding them. The fear of terror in the face of citizens of Beirut can be felt , take a look in these horrible images.

 

    





Beirut - Before and after Explosion: 


Beirut is the largest city of the Lebanon along with capital of Lebanon. No formal census has been done in Beirut since 1930s but according to UN World Urbanisation Prospects, Beirut's 2020 population was estimated at 2,424,425 with growth rate 1.70 %. The population of the metro area of Beirut estimated from 1 million to 2.2 million. Beirut is not just capital city but it has the chief seaport of Lebanon. It was a developed city but after the two successive explosion in a warehouse near port, the port is devastated. Almost Half of the city and 300,000 people affected directly or indirectly by the explosion. Load on the hospitals surpassed it's limit with covid 19 pandemic. According to NNA, the secretary-general of the Kataeb political party, Nazar Najarian, also died in the explosion. He was in his office when the explosion happened, and died after being critically injured.

Reason of Explosion :


The main reason of Explosion was stored Ammonium nitrate in a warehouse. About 2750 tonnes of this highly explosive chemical were being contained in the Warehouse for 6 years, the Authorities of Beirut said. This warehouse was in the port and near highly populated area of Beirut. But US president, Trump is still saying that it looks like terrible attack . "I have met with some of our great generals and they just seemed to feel that this was not  some kind of manufacturing explosion type of event. This seems to be according to then, they would know better than I would but they seem to think it was a attack . It was a bomb of some kind" , Trump added. Actual reason is yet to know.



Bad news for citizens of other countries:



Two Filipino citizens  died from the explosion, and eight others are injured, said a statement from the Philippine Embassy in Beirut. Some Filipino seafarers are still missing. One Australian and one American were killed. The Australian Embassy building has been "significantly compromised,"said Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.21 French citizens, 6 Turkish citizens,1 Japanese citizen, 1 Japanese citizen, one Indonesian, and several Americans were also injured, according to authorities from the five countries.


“What we are witnessing is a huge catastrophe,” the head of Lebanon’s Red Cross, George Kettani, told the news network Al Mayadeen. “There are victims and casualties everywhere.”





Lebanon's PM Hassan Statement:



Lebanon's prime minister Hassan Diab has vowed to punish those responsible for this disaster. "Beirut is stricken, Lebanon is suffering from a disaster. It's a big national disaster The image that we are seeing,  speak for the volume of the tragedy. What happened today will not pass without  accountability. Those responsible will pay the price for this disaster, this is a promise for the martyrs and the injured. This is a national commitment there will be the facts announced regarding this dangerous report that exists since 2014. This is an urgent appeal to neighbouring and friendly countries who love Lebanon to stand next to Lebanon and to help us Heal our deep wounds", PM Hassan said.
