🇮🇳 National Affairs

1. 18th BRICS Summit concludes in New Delhi

The 18th BRICS Summit concluded in New Delhi with leaders focusing on global governance reforms, economic cooperation, technology, food and energy security and the concerns of the Global South. India also highlighted the risks posed by geopolitical tensions, supply-chain disruptions and the weaponisation of technology and critical minerals.

2. BRICS New Delhi Declaration adopted

BRICS leaders adopted a joint declaration calling for stronger multilateral cooperation, reforms in global institutions and greater use of local currencies and cross-border payment systems. The declaration also addressed conflicts in the Middle East and Sudan.

3. India hands BRICS chairship to China

After completing its 2026 BRICS chairship, India handed over the chairmanship to China, which will host the next BRICS Summit in 2027.


🌍 International Affairs

4. BRICS expands cooperation in AI and technology

China proposed new initiatives including a BRICS AI Open Source Zone and greater cooperation in services, trade and technology. AI, digital cooperation and emerging technologies are becoming increasingly important areas of BRICS collaboration.

5. India’s semiconductor ecosystem gains momentum

India's semiconductor sector has attracted significant investment, with a substantial share of funding reportedly coming since 2025. Semiconductor manufacturing remains a key part of India's technology and strategic-industry push.

6. India–Sri Lanka Asia Cup final

India is scheduled to face Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final on 14 September 2026, with India aiming for its eighth Asia Cup title.

7. Hindi Diwas – 14 September

Hindi Diwas is observed every year on 14 September to commemorate the adoption of Hindi in Devanagari script as an official language of the Union by the Constituent Assembly on 14 September 1949.
