1. HAL Strengthens India’s Indigenous Defence Aviation

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has delivered two LCA Tejas twin-seater trainer aircraft and three HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft to the Indian Air Force. Four Dhruv NG helicopters were also handed over to Pawan Hans Limited. The handover ceremony took place in Bengaluru on 18 September 2026.

2. Push for Advanced Indigenous Aerospace Technology

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised the need for greater research and innovation in India’s aerospace and defence sectors. He encouraged scientists, engineers and young innovators to work on developing advanced technologies within the country.

3. 81st United Nations General Assembly Session

The 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly has entered its high-level phase. Discussions during the session cover issues such as sustainable development, climate change, global health, sea-level rise and international cooperation.

4. Nepal Recommends New Ambassadors

Nepal has recommended 13 individuals for ambassadorial positions in different countries. The proposed appointments include diplomatic posts in important countries such as India, China and the United States.

5. India's Direct Tax Collection Shows Growth

India's net direct tax collection, after accounting for refunds, reached approximately ₹12.12 lakh crore by 17 September 2026. The figure represents around 13% growth compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

6. Oceans Continue to Experience Exceptional Heat

Global ocean temperatures have remained exceptionally high during 2026. Scientists are closely monitoring the prolonged ocean warming because rising sea temperatures can affect marine ecosystems, weather patterns and climate conditions worldwide.

7. India Advances in Asian Games Women’s Cricket

India defeated Japan by 8 wickets in the women's cricket quarter-final at the Asian Games. Japan managed only 57 runs, while India reached the target in about five overs. Sree Charani took four wickets for 10 runs, while Shafali Verma remained unbeaten on 40 runs from 15 balls.

8. Asian Games 2026 Begins

The 20th Asian Games, officially known as the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, are being hosted by Japan. The Games are scheduled from 19 September to 4 October 2026.
