Summary:-

           The chapter 'Reach for the top' has been divided into two parts. The first part is about Santosh Yadav who is the only lady in the world who climbed Mount Everest twice in her life. She was born in such a society where the birth of a girl child was not considered as a moment of happiness. However her parents were rich but yet she was not sent to a big or better School as she was a girl. She was the sixth child in her family with five sons and that was why before the birth of her, family members were expecting a girl child. In her childhood she lived her life with her own conditions and didn't follow the instructions of elders if these were related to any orthodox. Most of the girls in her village, Joniyawas of Rewari district in Haryana, used to get married at the age of sixteen. So when Santosh converted into this age, she also was forced to get married. She threatened her parents that if she is not provided Higher Education, she would  not get married even for her lifetime. Under this pressure,  her parents agreed and sent her to Delhi for higher education. From there, She moved to Jaipur and joined  Maharani college and started living in Kasturba hostel.

From the Windows, she noticed some villages climbing to Aravali Hills and once when she went there she found that there were mountaineers. She also got permission to climb the mountain with him. From that day, she decided to become a mountaineer and for that she joined a training institute in UttarKashi's Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. Just after joining that, she had to write a letter of apology to her father as she couldn't take permission from her father because the last semester of her college ended late. But after joining the institute she began to show her will, physical endurance and amazing mental toughness. With the help of these qualities, in 1992 at the age of 20 years she conquered Mount Everest and became the youngest woman in the world to achieve the feat. This achievement of her did not only impress her seniors but also inspired the next generation. She also had other qualities like to help her fellows and to keep the society clean. She got an invitation to be a member of Indo - Napalese women's Expedition. In the meantime she conquered Everest for the second time and made a record to become  the only woman to have conquered Everest twice. She was awarded one of the Nation's top Honours, the Padma Shri. When she conquered Everest, she had said that it took some time for the enormity of the moment to sink in. When she unfurled the Indian tricolour. She felt so proud being on the top of the world. Except this achievement she also did such activities which proved her a real Indian. She, every time when went to the Himalayas, used to collect garbage. She collected and brought down 500 kilograms of garbage from the Himalayas.

           अध्याय 'रीच फॉर द टॉप' को दो भागों में विभाजित किया गया है। पहला भाग संतोष यादव के बारे में है जो दुनिया की एकमात्र महिला हैं जिन्होंने अपने जीवन में दो बार माउंट एवरेस्ट पर चढ़ाई की। वह एक ऐसे समाज में पैदा हुई थी, जहाँ लड़की का जन्म खुशी के पल के रूप में नहीं माना जाता था। हालाँकि उसके माता-पिता अमीर थे लेकिन फिर भी उसे एक बड़े या बेहतर स्कूल में नहीं भेजा गया क्योंकि वह एक लड़की थी। वह पांच बेटों के साथ अपने परिवार में छठी संतान थी और इसीलिए उनके जन्म से पहले परिवार के लोग एक बालिका की अपेक्षा कर रहे थे। बचपन में वह अपनी जिंदगी अपनी शर्तों के साथ जीती थी और बड़ों के निर्देशों का पालन नहीं करती थी अगर ये किसी रूढ़िवादी से संबंधित होते। हरियाणा के रेवाड़ी जिले के उनके गाँव जोनिआवा की ज्यादातर लड़कियां सोलह साल की उम्र में शादी कर लेती थीं। इसलिए जब संतोष इस उम्र में परिवर्तित हो गयी, तो उसे भी शादी करने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ा। उसने अपने माता-पिता को धमकी दी कि यदि उसे उच्च शिक्षा प्रदान नहीं की जाती है, तो वह अपने जीवन भर शादी भी नहीं करेगी। इस दबाव में, उसके माता-पिता सहमत हो गए और उसे उच्च शिक्षा के लिए दिल्ली भेज दिया। वहां से, वह जयपुर चली गई और महारानी कॉलेज में दाखिला लिया और कस्तूरबा छात्रावास में रहने लगी।

विंडोज से, उसने देखा कि कुछ गाँव वाले अरावली पहाड़ियों पर चढ़ रहे हैं और एक बार जब वह वहाँ गई तो उसने पाया कि वे पर्वतारोही थे। उसे अपने साथ पहाड़ पर चढ़ने की अनुमति भी मिली। उस दिन से, उसने पर्वतारोही बनने का फैसला किया और इसके लिए वह उत्तरकाशी के नेहरू पर्वतारोहण संस्थान में एक प्रशिक्षण संस्थान में शामिल हो गई। इसमें शामिल होने के बाद, उसे अपने पिता से माफी का पत्र लिखवाना पड़ा क्योंकि वह अपने पिता से अनुमति नहीं ले सकती थी क्योंकि उसके कॉलेज का अंतिम सेमेस्टर देर से समाप्त हुआ था। लेकिन संस्थान में शामिल होने के बाद उसने अपनी इच्छाशक्ति, शारीरिक धीरज और अद्भुत मानसिक दृढ़ता को दिखाना शुरू कर दिया। इन गुणों की मदद से, 1992 में 20 साल की उम्र में उसने माउंट एवरेस्ट को फतह किया और यह उपलब्धि हासिल करने वाली दुनिया की सबसे कम उम्र की महिला बन गई। उसकी इस उपलब्धि ने न केवल उसके वरिष्ठों को प्रभावित किया बल्कि अगली पीढ़ी को भी प्रेरित किया। उसके पास अन्य गुण भी थे जैसे कि उसे अपने साथियों की मदद करना और समाज को साफ रखना। उन्हें इंडो - नेपाली महिला अभियान की सदस्य बनने का निमंत्रण मिला। इस बीच उसने दूसरी बार एवरेस्ट को फतह किया और दो बार एवरेस्ट फतह करने वाली एकमात्र महिला बनने का रिकॉर्ड बनाया। उन्हें राष्ट्र के शीर्ष सम्मानों में से एक, पद्म श्री से सम्मानित किया गया था। जब उसने एवरेस्ट को फतह किया, तो उसने कहा था कि पल की विशालता में डूबने में कुछ समय लगा। जब उसने भारतीय तिरंगा फहराया। उसे दुनिया के शीर्ष पर होने पर बहुत गर्व महसूस हुआ। इस उपलब्धि को छोड़कर उसने ऐसी गतिविधियाँ भी कीं जो उसे वास्तविक भारतीय साबित करती हैं। वह, हर बार जब हिमालय जाती थीं, कचरा इकट्ठा करती थीं। उसने हिमालय से 500 किलोग्राम कचरा एकत्र किया और लाया।
