  • Union Minister Smriti Irani has addressed the UN on the 25th Anniversary of the 4th world conference on women.

  • Smriti Irani (Union minister for women and Child Development) said that more than 200 million women have been brought into the formal banking system through the government financial inclusion initiative.


US committed $1.9 million to Support India

  • The US has announced to support $1.9 million for vulnerable populations like informal sector workers whose livelihood have been destroyed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

  • This assistance will be provided by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

  • The commitment will support the Revive alliance and the Ford Foundation to solve the problems and challenges caused by the unemployment and income gap faced by workers in the informal economy.


Defence ministry has signed a contract with EEL

  • The Defence ministry signed a contract of Rs. 409 crore with a Nagpur based company.

  • This contract is for the supply of 1 Million multimode hand grenades which will replace the hand grenades design of world war-II vintage, in use with the Indian Army.

  • This contract has been signed between the Acquisition wing of Defense ministry and Economic Explosive Ltd.(EEL).


India Successfully tested Shaurya Missile

  • India has successfully test-fired an advanced version of Shaurya, Surface-to-Surface nuclear capable ballistic missile.

  • This missile will be lighter and easier to operate and can strike the targets at a range of around 800 km.

  • The test was performed in Odisha by Defence, Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on 3 October 2020.
